SHOW NOTES

Welcome to Episode 46 of the Hope Rescue Podcast and Merry Christmas Eve Eve! We are excited to be talking about Christmas topics again this week, and if you listen to the podcast you will hear Tim and Kimberly answer some fun Christmas questions at the beginning of the episode. The main points we want to discuss today though are what to do if you are feeling alone during the holidays and how to make Christmas about Jesus.

Tim and Kimberly emphasize that the best thing we can do if we are feeling alone this Christmas is to serve others. Find a way to reach out and impact someone else’s life. Kimberly explains that there are opportunities to serve others all around us everyday. There are organizations whose sole purpose is to serve those in need, and they are always looking for volunteers. Look for a local soup kitchen or food distribution event you can help with. But even if you don’t serve in the capacity of a large event, think of ways you can bless people in your event day life. Think of your neighbor, your friend going through a divorce, your cashier at the grocery store, or your mail man. Who is someone you interact with often that you can be a blessing to this year?

We also prepared three ways to make Christmas about Jesus this year.

1. Read the Christmas story on Christmas morning. Tim says, “Before we open gifts this year, let’s open our bibles and remind ourselves why we are celebrating in the first place.

2. “Understand that the purpose of Christ’s birth is not really about his birth but about his death. Without Jesus we would have no sacrifice for our sins. It’s ironic that on Christmas we focus so much about Christ’s birth but in reality, it’s most important to remember his death. Every time we gather together we are to remember his death.

3.When you see Christmas lights, let that be a reminder that Christ is the light of the world. When you open gifts, let that be a reminder of the gift of Jesus Christ. When your family gathers together, let that be a reminder that we are the family of God. When you sit down for a feast, let that be a reminder of the gift of sustenance and life that comes through Christ.
