SHOW NOTES
As Christians, we all long to know God’s plan for our lives. We want to know that we are on the right path, that we are fulfilling His purposes, and that we are making the right decisions. Yet, despite our best efforts, we can still feel unsure of what God wants us to do.
When faced with big life decisions, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and worry that we might miss God’s will. However, we can take comfort in knowing that God is always with us, guiding us and leading us towards His perfect plan.
While we may not hear an audible voice or receive a clear-cut answer, we can determine God’s will by seeking Him through prayer, studying His Word, and listening to the Holy Spirit’s prompting. As we do so, we can ask ourselves these eight important questions:
1. What are the viable options? Have I considered all the possibilities?
God has given us the ability to reason and weigh the pros and cons of different choices. Take the time to consider all the options and ask God to help you see the best path forward.
2. What does God want? He’ll never call us to something outside of his moral character.
God’s moral will is revealed to us through the Bible. Spend time in prayer and study to understand His principles, and let them guide your decision-making process.
3. What do I desire to get out of the decision? Why do I want that?
Our desires can be a reflection of God’s will for us, but they can also be influenced by our fleshly desires. Take the time to examine your heart and motives to ensure they align with God’s will.
4. What are the variables outside of my control?
God is in control of the future, and we must trust Him with the unknown. Surrender your desires and your fears to Him and trust that He will guide you.
5. What are the consequences of the decision?
Every decision we make has consequences, both positive and negative. Take the time to weigh out the pros and cons and seek wise counsel from trusted friends or mentors.
6. What is motivating the decision? Am I deciding this out of fear?
Fear can be a powerful motivator, but it can also lead us astray. Ask God to reveal any fears or doubts that may be clouding your judgment and trust Him to lead you in the right direction.
7. What impact does this decision have on my values? Is this decision consistent with my values and beliefs?
As believers, our values and beliefs should be consistent with God’s will. Take the time to reflect on how this decision aligns with your values and beliefs and seek to honor God in your choices.
8. How will this decision affect myself and those around me emotionally and socially?
Our decisions don’t just affect us, but they can also impact those around us. Take the time to consider how this decision will affect your relationships and seek to honor God in your interactions with others.
Remember, God’s will for your life is not a destination, but a journey. Trust in Him, seek His guidance, and make decisions with confidence knowing that He is with you every step of the way.
