SHOW NOTES

Welcome to episode 152 of the Hope Rescue Podcast. Last week we started our discussion on habits by discussing a Biblical principle that will change your life. This week we are discussing two easy steps you can take to create a lasting change in your life. Keep reading or listening to find out more!

This week, our anchor verse can be found in Matthew 23:25-26 and it says, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.”

You can modify your behavior without actually changing your heart. Tim says that we don’t need to worry about cleaning the outside of the metaphorical cup if the inside is clean. If we clean our hearts, the cleanliness will flow externally. True transformation always occurs from the inside out.

Tim and Kimberly go on to discuss two strategies for permanent change:

  1. Decide what kind of person you want to be and what kind of life you want to lead. If you want to grow spiritually, you have to be exposed to the Word of God. If you want to change your physical health, you have to change what you are consuming and how much you exercise. If you want to change your relationships, you have to change your heart. So the first step is to decide what you would like to change. What areas would you like to grow? How do you want to come off to other people? And then determine what steps you can take to arrive at that destination.

  1. The second step is to reinforce those changed habits consistently for thirty days. The 21/90 rule states that it takes 21 days to make a habit and 90 days to make it a permanent lifestyle change. Is there a new lifestyle change you would like to make? You don’t have to be bound to the life you have always lived. Decide today to make a change, and by changing one small habit consistently, it could change your life.
